AReola realism tattooing

What is areola reconstructive tattooing:

Areola reconstructive tattooing is a para-medical tattoo. A realism areola tattoo is created on a reconstructed nipple, an existing nipple or skin where the nipple has been removed and the skin is flat. There can be a variety of reasons why an areola tattoo is desired.

If you have had breast reconstruction after a mastectomy, you may have also chosen to do a nipple reconstruction in addition. Whether you have had a nipple reconstruction or not, an areola tattoo is suitable either way to create those small details, color and a 3 dimensional appearance. If you had a nipple sparing mastectomy, I can tattoo on existing areola. I tattoo bi-laterally and uni-laterally depending on what your needs are.

If you chose to have nipple reconstruction after your breast reconstruction, a tattoo can add color, dimension and those fine details, like mammoth glands that can not be achieved with surgery on its own.

If you elected not to have a nipple reconstruction, a 3 dimensional, realism tattoo of your nipple and areola can be completely created to look like your actual nipple.

If there is scar tissue present, I request we wait 6 months before tattooing after your last surgery. If you do not have scar tissue, we can tattoo as soon as 4 months after surgery and last radiation treatment. We must wait at least 6 weeks after chemotherapy and I request a clearance note from your doctor.

If you have had breast reduction or augmentation and you would like to re-create or enhance your areola/nipple, I also request that we wait 6 months if scar tissue is present and 4 months for healthy skin.

I require that we set up a consultation prior to tattooing. At the time of your consultation, I will go over the tattoo process, after care and we will discuss your desired results. You are welcome to bringing in photos. We will select color, shape and size together. We will discuss any surgeries, pre-cautions, current health status and physician recommendations.

I see my clients ten weeks after initial appointment to assess healed results and make any touch-ups if needed. I prefer to work in two sessions as to be delicate and respect the skin as it may be scared, thin or sensitive. I am unable to guarantee how each individual client will heal as every client’s skin will hold ink and heal differently. If you do not need a second session, that is great and your tattoo is complete in one.

Factors that may prevent us from being able to tattoo:

  • Radiation treatments that have damaged the skin.

  • You have a history of infections in the breast area

  • You have lymphedema that involves the chest.

  • Overly thinned skin do to surgery.

My studio is discrete, tattoo area is sterile and I understand the level of sensitivity. I  absolutely welcome communication with your doctor and or surgeon, working together to provide you exactly what you need as their patient and my client.
